Bingara (New South Wales)

18/10/14  We have spent the last four days beside the Gwydir River at Bingara. We can see why it’s a favourite camping spot of Paula (my sister) and Peter, who return to Bingara as often as they can. The waters were flowing quite quickly due the recent rain and felt as though they were from the Blue Mountains – very, very cold!  A definite must do is a tour of the art deco Roxy Theatre built in the 1930s by three Greek immigrants. Part of the theatre complex houses Peters Cafe, with mostly original fittings which had been stored away by a previous owner.

Every morning and afternoon we were visited by a herd of horses and a camel which crossed the river beside us to graze where we were camped. Last night, we sat beside the fire and watched the fire die down and thought ‘we definitely should have had a camp oven on those embers!’

No wondering where to next, as tomorrow we are heading to Narrabri to visit Deb (my sister) and brother-in-law Stuart.
